Politics in the Pub: Socialists against One Nation
Sat 16 May @ 2:00 PM
One Nation is setting the terms of debate on housing - the Liberals are adopting racist policies to exclude permanent residents from buying homes. Meanwhile Labor and the Liberals continue protecting landlords, banks, and developers instead of fixing the crisis. Join us at Politics in the Pub in the King O'Malley's Castle Room to discuss why we need a Socialist Party that is willing to stand up to Hanson's racism and take on the big financial interests driving the cost of living crisis.
One Nation is setting the terms of debate about housing. Hanson’s longstanding racist policies of banning permanent residents from buying housing are being adopted by the Liberal Party now, who oppose the idea that permanent residents should be allowed to access the 5% deposit scheme.
We have a housing crisis because Labor and the Liberals have spent decades looking after landlords, big banks, and property developers. Rents are soaring and mortgage repayments are going through the roof, but the major parties refuse to do anything to bring down house prices such as building lots of quality public housing and abolishing the capital gains tax concession. Instead of tackling those responsible, the major parties let things get worse and open the door to Pauline Hanson’s vile rhetoric that migrants are to blame.
Join us at Politics in the Pub in the King O’Malleys Castle Room to discuss why we need a socialist party that can stand up to the racism of One Nation and the complicity of the major parties. The politics of solidarity can defeat the right, but only if we have a movement willing to stand up to the big financial interests that are really responsible for the cost of living crisis.
